TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Attorney General's Office (AGO) confirmed that at least 138 fugitives were arrested from January to December 18, 2023. Out of the total, 79 fugitives were apprehended for corruption cases and 59 were apprehended for non-corruption cases.

Ketut Sumedana, head of the office’s Legal Information Center, said that the arrest of 138 fugitives was the result of the office's Tangkap Buronan (Tabur) program.

“With this achievement, the number of DPO (people on the wanted list/fugitives) arrested under the leadership of Attorney General ST Burhanuddin reached 634,” Ketut said in the AGO’s press release in Jakarta, on Monday, January 1.

Burhanuddin has been serving as Attorney General since October 23, 2019. Throughout 2023, the office handled more than a thousand cases of corruption and 18 cases of money laundering (TPPU). Of the 18 TPPU cases, three cases were related to tax crimes, and the other 15 cases were related to customs and excise crimes.

These cases, which are handled by the Deputy Attorney General for Special Crimes, consist of 1,647 cases that are still in the investigation stage, 1,462 cases in the further investigation stage, 1,766 cases in the prosecution stage, and 1,699 cases in the execution stage.

The total state losses resulting from these crimes that AGO has recovered reached Rp29.9 trillion and 5.39 million US dollars, 364,200 Singapore dollars, 4,290 euros, 52,638 Malaysian ringgit, 24,000 Korean won, and 56 German pfennigs.
