TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Nusantara Capital City or IKN Authority head Bambang Susantono said a lot of innovations will be implemented in Indonesia’s new capital by 2045, such as flying taxis.

“This is the future city, a city of tomorrow that we are building until 2045. So don’t be surprised that there will be flying taxis in Nusantara in 2045,” Bambang said in Central Jakarta, Tuesday, September 26, 2023.

He claimed that the government is collaborating with Hyundai Motor to test the concept and its compatibility with regulations and safety standards.

He also stressed that the government will prohibit the use of fuel-powered vehicles in the new capital in North Penajam Paser Regency, East Kalimantan. Only electric vehicles, hydrogen vehicles, and other environmentally friendly vehicles will be allowed to operate in IKN.

The new capital will be an opportunity for Indonesian people to create a smart city through innovations. Bambang believed that IKN would become a model city in Indonesia and the world. “That’s why the tagline is a world-class city for all,” he added.

In 2045, he went on, the government will apply the latest concepts in the world, such as a sponge city as there will be many lakes and reservoirs to collect rainwater. He considered this a nature-based solution.

Bambang also said that the IKN Authority will implement all digital services, including the implementation of a smart water system, a smart intelligent transportation system, and waste management to achieve the goal of zero waste.
