TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Acting Governor of Jakarta Heru Budi Hartono said the Provincial Government is currently reviewing changes to the concept of the area surrounding the National Monument (Monas). The government conducts the study with the Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) and the Ministry of Finance.
"In the future, if Nusantara Capital City (IKN) has truly become the capital city, Monas and its surrounding area, from Istiqlal Mosque to HI Roundabout, will become a potential zone for investments,” said Heru Budi at the opening of the Jakarta Investment Festival in Kuningan, South Jakarta on Friday, September 6, 2024.
Heru Budi said the government is currently discussing the commercialization of Monas and its surrounding area. In due course, the government will submit the results of the study to the central government, the public, and investors.
Therefore, Heru Budi said he invited investors to come and explore various potential projects managed by Regional-Owned Enterprises (BUMD) and Regional Business Service Agencies.
Jakarta still holds the capital city status thus far, despite the Law on Special Region of Jakarta being ratified a few months back. The capital transfer to IKN, however, must be ratified through a Presidential Decree.
The failure to sign the IKN Presidential Decree has emerged along with speculation about Prabowo's hesitation in continuing the IKN project. There are talks about Jokowi’s legacy project becoming a burden to the State Budget. At the same time, President-elect Prabowo Subianto has his own flagship program, the free meal program.
