TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State electricity company, PT PLN, said it has installed 616 electric vehicle charging stations (SPKLU) and 1,401 EV battery charging stations (SPBKLU) with the aim to accelerate net zero emission (NZE) target in 2060.

"PLN is committed to consistently supporting and boosting an environmentally friendly lifedata-style, especially in the transportation sector through the acceleration of the provision of electric vehicle infrastructures such as charging stations," said PLN president director Darmawan Prasodjo in an official statement on Friday, July 14.

The one and only way to reduce emissions in the transportation sector is through the use of electric vehicles, said Darmawan. He viewed that it could reduce 50 percent of carbon emissions and 75 percent of operational costs.

Carbon emitted by the use of one liter of fossil fuel equals to 1.5kWh of electricity. The emission for one-liter fuel is 2.4 kg Co2e, and carbon emissions of 1.5 kWh are 1.5 kg Co2e.

Darmawan said that to travel 10 kilometers using electric vehicles needs 1.5 kWh of power. If the electricity tariff is assumed at Rp1,699.53 per kWh, then the cost needed to travel 10 kilometers is Rp2,500.

Meanwhile, using fossil-fueled vehicles to travel 10 kilometers needs around one liter of fuel with an average price of Rp13,000 per liter.
