TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - City-owned public transport firm MRT Jakarta announced on Wednesday that it will impose Rp1 fare exclusively to celebrate the 496th anniversary of the capital city of Jakarta, which effectively started earlier today at 05:00 and ends as the clock strikes 24:00 midnight.
MRT Jakarta corporate secretary head Ahmad Pratomo in a written statement today said “This ticket price is available for all types of payment methods,” such as the multi-trip ticket (MTT), electronic bank payment cards, and ticket purchases through the MRT-J app.
This Rp1 ride, the company stated, is aimed to show appreciation for public transportation users in the capital city and the active participation of the company in celebrating Jakarta’s anniversary. This also aligns with the city’s aim to encourage more people to take on public transportation.
"Service users shall tap or scan [fare cards] at the passenger gate when entering and leaving, it's just that the fare is Rp. 1," said Ahmad.
Apart from the MRT, other means of transportation such as Transjakarta bus rides and LRT Jakarta will also only cost Rp1 for a single trip throughout the day, according to LRT Jakarta corporate secretary Sheila Indira Maharshi on June 21.
Sheil said there were more than 5,000 public transport commuters who utilized this discounted fare in last year’s program.
