TEMPO.CO, Batam - The people in the City of Batam flocked to markets that sell food for iftar or breaking the fast, known as Pasar Takjil, during Ramadan on the first day of the fasting month on Thursday, March 23. Various iftar food and beverages are available in the markets.

Such as the market in Jodoh Nagoya, Batam, where people started to crowd to at 16:30 local time.

Ahead of the fast-breaking time, the number of people flocking to the market increased. The Jodoh Market is located in the shopping center in Batam. Similar sights were also seen at Pasar Takjil in the Bengkong area. It was highly flooded with people. Some were even moved back and discouraged to buy some iftar food as they did not want to be jostled due to limited parking space.

“It’s too crowded, let’s find another place,” said Dila, one of the residents who look for iftar food.

60 Spots of Pasar Takjil in Batam

There are at least more than 60 spots of these markets in the City of Batam. The iftar food markets are not only organized by the private sector but also by the government.

"Pasar Takjil that are organized by the government is centered in Taman Dang Anom Batam Center," said the head of the Batam Tourism Department Ardiwinata.

Ardi said that the presence of these Ramadan markets in Batam is advantageous to increase the small businesses’ economy, especially in the culinary sector.
