TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Joko Widodo or Jokowi is slated to convene with his supporters and volunteers to break the fast together (iftar) at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Monday, April 1, 2024.
Chairman of the volunteer group called Bara JP, Utje Gustav, confirmed that he was invited by the President. “We were invited via WA [Whatsapp messaging app],” Utje told Tempo.
Immanuel Ebenezer, the chairman of the Jokowi Mania Group, also affirmed receiving the invitation from the Palace and expressed his enthusiasm about accepting the President’s invitation. “Because I have never been invited before,” Noel claimed.
The specific volunteer groups invited have not been disclosed, The Projo, Jokowi’s largest supporter group, has yet to respond to Tempo’s request for information via WhatsApp.
Moreover, Presidential Special Staff Coordinator Ari Dwipayana has yet to respond to a request for confirmation of the iftar invitation.
Last Thursday, March 28, President Jokowi hosted an iftar dinner with his cabinet ministers, marking the first such event since stringent pandemic regulations were imposed in 2020.
