TEMPO.CO, Bekasi - Bekasi Regency Government has declared a state of emergency in the region following massive flooding and landslides in the past few days. The decision was stipulated in Decree No. HK.02.02/Kep-227-BPBD/2023 inked by acting Bekasi Regent Dani Ramadan on Tuesday, February 28.

“This emergency status is in accordance with the regulations and must be supported by Forkopimda (the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum) and other stakeholders,” said Dani in Cikarang, Tuesday.

Dani said the status will be valid for 14 days starting February 27 until March 12. Besides, the regency government also established a team to help mitigate the hydrometeorological disasters.

“The condition is getting worrying as of yesterday (Monday). The flooding spreads to 17 subdistricts,” Dani said.

He asserted that all stakeholders, including regional working units (SKPD), must stand guard 24 hours, monitoring vulnerable areas such as rivers or water channels that often overflow.

Information about potential flooding across Bekasi must also be announced to the public immediately so they could conduct self-evacuation prior to the disaster. “The key is to have zero death cases and minimum losses of property and damages,” Dani emphasized.
