TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State-owned railway company PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) has disbursed humanitarian assistance worth Rp50 million, deployed a health train called Rail Clinic, and provided two ambulances for Cianjur earthquake victims.

"KAI acted quickly in providing the aid, thus it could ease the burden on the people affected by the earthquake in Cianjur district (West Java). KAI will continue to cooperate with various parties to distribute the assistance, thus it can expedite post-disaster recovery," KAI's vice president for public relations Joni Martinus said here on Wednesday.

KAI has also deployed volunteers to help earthquake victims in Cianjur district, he informed.

In addition, it has provided blankets, noodles, biscuits, milk, rice, coffee, cooking oil, diapers, medicines, and various other aids needed by victims.

The aid has been disbursed under the enterprise’s corporate social responsibility program, KAI Care, through the West Java provincial state-owned enterprises’ (SOEs’) task force team for emergency mitigation of the Cianjur district earthquake.

According to the company’s vice president, KAI Logistics, the corporation’s subsidiary, has also provided tents and assisted in the delivery of the company’s logistical aid.

"KAI continues to play an active role and always strives to be at the forefront of helping the victims of natural disasters (throughout Indonesia)," he added.

He said that earthquake victims can come directly to Cianjur Station to get free health checks and medicines.

Sixteen special Rail Clinic officers and several other Cianjur Station personnel have been kept ready to provide health services to people.

The provision of KAI's assistance is in line with SOEs Minister Erick Thohir's directives to all state-run enterprises to help communities affected by the disaster.

The SOEs Ministry has also assigned the SOEs disaster task force to directly provide aid and coordinate intensively with the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB), Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD), and local governments.

As of Wednesday, the 5.6-magnitude earthquake, which hit Cianjur district on Monday (November 21, 2022) had claimed 271 lives, while 40 people remained missing, the BNPB reported.
