TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - U.S. President Joe Biden stated that his party and allies would highlight the impact of Russia's invasion of Ukraine at the G20 summit, along with other important issues.

Biden in particular will provide attention to the food crisis which has turned worse due to the influence of Moscow's aggression. "That means overcoming the suffering that the Russian aggression inflicted on not only Ukrainians but also people around the world," he said during a media briefing in Nusa Dua, Bali, Monday, November 14, 2022.

The face-to-face meeting at the G20 summit will be held in Bali on 15 and 16 November 2022. The focus from the host will be on post-pandemic global economic recovery, with priorities in the fields of health, digital transformation and energy transition.

The current meeting of the G20 members is overshadowed by the global crisis in the food and energy sector, which was triggered by the conflict in Ukraine. In some ministerial meetings, several western countries led by the United States strongly condemned Russia's invasion of Ukraine and its impact on the food and energy crisis.

The Kremlin often denied the invasion is the source of the problem, including the food issues. Russia considers the military operation in Ukraine to be caused by western provocations.

Russian President Vladimir Putin will not attend the G20 Bali summit, amid pressure from the west to remove him from the conference. The Russian delegation will be led by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

Indonesia as the host of the G20 this year cannot expel Russia from the meeting for a reason of membership precedent. All decisions at the economic forum were also decided by consensus.

In addition to the United States, Britain, and Canada, the European Union will also condemn Putin's war in Ukraine. As reported by earlier sources, Western leaders will boycott the Russian delegation.

Due to differences of opinion regarding Ukraine, the G20 Summit forum is expected to be difficult to reach a mutual agreement. Nevertheless, President Joko Widodo emphasized that Indonesia as the G20 presidency would continue to maintain peace.
