TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Communication and Information Technology or Kominfo Ministry has responded to the alleged breach of Indonesian SIM card registration data that are traded on a hacker site breached.co. It said it has launched an internal investigation.

“From the search, it can be confirmed that the Kominfo Ministry does not have an application to accommodate registration data of prepaid and postpaid cards,” said the ministry in a written statement on Thursday, September 1, 2022.

An account named Bjorka claimed on its page that it has 1,304,401,300 SIM card registration data with a capacity of 87 GB.

Based on observations of the data fragments distributed by the account, the ministry emphasized that the data did not come from the Kominfo Ministry.

“The ministry is conducting further investigations regarding the source of the data and other matters related to the alleged data leak,” it added.

Information about the alleged data breach was first revealed by an account @SRifqi that uploaded a screenshot of Bjorka's page. The SIM card registration data are reported to be in the form of CSV containing NIK (National ID Card Number, phone number, telecommunication providers, and registration date.

“1.3 billion Indonesian SIM card registration data leaked! The registration data includes NIK, telephone number, provider’s name, and registration date. The seller states that the data are obtained from Kominfo,” tweeted @SRifqi as the photo caption.
