TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) in April 2022 stood at 51.9 in April, up from March's 51.3, a survey by S&P Global said, higher than a number of nations including China and Russia. Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said that the manufacturing PMI hike came with the increasing flow of exports.

In March 2022, Indonesia's export was a surplus of US$4.53 billion.

"The PMI results represented a business improvement in all of Indonesia's manufacturing sector for eight consecutive months, with the fastest improvement rate since last January," Agus said in a statement, Thursday, May 5.

Indonesia's April manufacturing Index outperformed those of several countries, including China and Russia. The score of 51.9 was higher compared to China (46.0), Russia (48.2), Malaysia (51.6), Taiwan (51.7), and Vietnam (51.7).

The manufacturing sector's recovery is expected to support the national economic growth in Q2/2022. Minister Agus said that the manufacturing industry sector continued to expand at a faster pace throughout April.

He said the government will also push the potential for public goods and capital expenditures as well as services domestically. The government allocated a Rp526 trillion expenditure budget for the central government and Rp535 trillion for the local government, making it a total of more than Rp1,000 trillion.
