TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Conglomerate company Bakrie Group revealed its commitment to developing an ecosystem for electric vehicles after meeting with Tesla owner Elon Musk. Citing Antaranews, the group’s business unit VKTR, claimed to have started attempts to industrialize Indonesia’s transportation electrification.

This was confirmed by Bakrie & Brothers president director Anindya Bakrie who said VKTR has established strategic partnerships with a number of partners domestically and internationally.

Last month, VKTR has reportedly signed a deal with British company BritishVolt for the provision of battery raw materials. They also claimed to have partnered with the global player in the electric vehicle sector, BYD Auto China.

"VKTR has secured partnerships locally with bus manufacturer Tri Sakti in Magelang, Central Java,” said Anindya to Antaranews on April 27.

The Chairman of the Advisory Council of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) also said that the Bakrie Group through its subsidiary would build the industry from upstream to downstream.

Moreover, Anindya said he was impressed by the production facility in Tesla’s Austin Gigafactory, "It was amazing. All of its production line, car, and battery are designed and ran meticulously and effectively," he said, “Tesla is one of the current references for the world's electric vehicle industry development. So yes, there were many aspects that we can study from that meeting.”
