TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Police's Mobile Brigade (Brimob) personnel set up barbed wire barricades at the main gate of the House of Representatives (DPR) Building on Jalan Gatot Subroto, Senayan, in anticipation of today’s demonstration, April 21.

Dozens of two-meter-high white and black barriers were also installed on the outside of the building gates. Dozens of police and the Indonesian Military (TNI) personnel were seen standing guard.

As of Thursday afternoon, protestors from the labor element who were scheduled to take part in the protest at the DPR building have not yet been seen.

As previously reported, Jakarta Police Traffic Directorate had prepared traffic diversion to secure demonstrations staged by students from the University of Indonesia or UI’s Student Executive Board (BEM UI) and the Indonesian Student Alliance (AMI) as well as laborers.

Jakarta Traffic Police Director Sr. Comr. Sambodo Purnomo Yogo outlined that the traffic diversion would take effect in three areas, namely the DPR Building, the Horse Statue, and Harmoni area.

Sambodo asked the public to prepare alternative routes due to the diverted traffic in the wake of the April 21 demonstration. “People are asked to arrange their trips so that tomorrow morning (April 21) they can avoid the three areas and look for other alternative routes,” said Sambodo on Wednesday, April 20.
