Traffic Diverted as Students Take to the Streets in Another Mass Protest

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Metro Jaya Police traffic directorate announced that traffic will be diverted ahead of the mass protest by university students scheduled to be held on Thursday, April 21. The traffic diversion are focused in three areas of Central Jakarta, coinciding with the students' protest.
Metro Jaya Police Traffic Director, Grand Commissioner Sambodo Purnomo Yogo on Wednesday said vehicle traffic will be diverted as soon as 9AM local time around the House of Representatives (DPR) and areas in the vicinity of the Presidential Palace.
"We will impose diverted traffic around 09:00 WIB," Sambodo confirmed on Wednesday, Antaranews reported.
He called for members of the public to plan ahead and choose alternative routes.
"We encourage people to plan their travel tomorrow and avoid the three areas and take alternative roads," he added.
The Metro Jaya Police confirmed that they had received a notice from the Alliance of Indonesian University Students and University of Indonesia (UI) Students Executive Body. The three main areas set to be the stage for the mass protest are the DPR headquarters, the Patung Kuda statue (Arjuna Wijaya Chariot statue) in front of Monas (the National Monument), and Harmoni area which is within the perimeter of the Presidential Palace.
