TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia’s flag carrier Garuda Indonesia reported the current condition of its Boeing 737-800 NG jets, the type of aircraft operated by China Eastern Airlines which crashed on Monday, March 21.

Garuda President Director Irfan Setiaputra said today, March 23, that the firm continued to have intensive coordination with aviation authorities, both the Transportation Ministry and the manufacturing parties, regarding the results of the investigation on the air crash.

The China Eastern Airlines Boeing 737-800 was flying from Kunming to Guangzhou when it plunged to earth in the mountains in southern China's Guangxi. The plane carried 123 passengers and nine crew, according to the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC).

Irfan said Boeing 737-800 NG is one of the aircraft types operated by Garuda to serve passenger and cargo flights.

“At present, we continuously apply layered inspection procedures and continue periodic inspections of vital and supporting features of the airworthiness of the B737-800NG aircraft, referring to flight safety regulations,” he said in an official statement, Wednesday.

Irfan added that the layered inspections, as well as regular pilots' training and assessment through pilot proficiency check, are aimed at ensuring the aircraft used by Garuda Indonesia is serviceable and in optimal condition before flying.
