TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Ahead of Ramadan which will fall in early April, Jakarta Deputy Governor Ahmad Riza Patria said the provincial government is still waiting for the Ministry of Religious Affairs’ regulation regarding the implementation of Tarawih prayers.

“We are waiting for a Religious Affairs Ministerial circular on the rules of the implementation of Tarawih prayers,” said Riza at Jakarta City Hall, Tuesday, March 22.

The capital city is still under the enforcement of the public mobility restriction (PPKM) Level 2 as the government extended the policy for Java and Bali regions from March 22 to April 4 in the wake of the lingering COVID-19 pandemic.

Based on the PPKM Level 2 rules, places of worship in Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi are allowed to hold mass prayers at a maximum of 75 percent capacity.

“For regions under PPKM level 2, places of worship such as mosques, churches, temples, monasteries, and pagodas as well as other places used for worships can hold mass religious activities at a maximum of 75 percent,” as quoted from the Home Affairs Ministerial Instruction No. 18 of 2022 concerning PPKM Level 3, Level 2, and Level 1 in Java and Bali Regions.

Additionally, religious activities in places of worship must be held under strict health protocols and follow technical guidance from the Religious Affairs Ministry.
