Police: Shooting of Terrorist Suspect in Sukoharjo in Line with Procedures

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Police's Anti-terror Detachment Densus 88 shot dead a terrorist suspect identified as Sunardi (SU) in Sukoharjo, Central Java as the latter resisted the arrest on Wednesday, March 9, at 21:15 local time.
The National Police’s Head of the Public Information Bureau, Brig. Gen. Ahmad Ramadhan said the shooting was in accordance with the procedures regulated in the Criminal Code, Criminal Law Procedures Code, Law No. 2/2002 on the National Police, and the National Police Chief’s Regulation No. 1/2009 on the use of force.
“It is stipulated in which that stern and measured actions are taken on the grounds that the suspect's actions have endangered or threatened the safety of the lives of the public and police officers,” said Ramadhan at a press conference at the National Police Headquarters, Friday, March 11.
The action, he said, was also in accordance with the National Police Chief's Regulation No. 8 of 2009 concerning the implementation of the human rights principle in performing duties. “We added that due to the suspect's actions, two members were injured as they were hit or fell. They are being treated at Bhayangkara Police Hospital,” he added.
According to Ramadhan, SU's status before the arrest was already a suspect in a terrorism crime. “[He was] not a possible suspect,” he said.
