TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Police arrested three terrorist suspects in Bengkulu on Wednesday, February 9th. The three men, CA, M and R, are suspected to be members of the Bengkulu Jamaah Islamiyah network, which is connected to JI in Palembang, Riau and North Sumatra.
The Police's PR Bureau chief, Brig. Gen. Ahmad Ramadhan, said that CA is suspected to be the branch leader of Jamaah Islamiyah Bengkulu Branch. He was allegedly in charge of recruiting members along with M and R.
"They pledged allegiance to JI in 1999," Ramadhan said on Thursday, February 10.
According to Ramadhan, the three suspects were allegedly active in recruiting members, raising funds, and facilitating fugitives to hide or escape.
On the same day, the Indonesian police arrested two in Yogyakarta, RAU, and SU, suspected to have links to the Jamaah Ansharut Daulah.
The police suspect RAU to have pledged loyalty to ISIS leader Abu Bakar Al Baghdadi in 2019, as well as to Baghdadi's successor Al Hasyimi. The police also suspect that RAU is a member of JAD Yogyakarta and has attempted to commit a terror crime in Gunung Sepuh, Bantul in 2018.
Meanwhile, SU (52) is suspected to have pledged allegiance to ISIS in 2016 and 2019. SU allegedly participated in military training with the Yogyakarta JAD group in 2016-2019 and is suspected of planning an attack on the police station.
