Indonesia to Focus on Extreme Poverty, Unemployment Issues in 2023 Program

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian government has set seven prioritized policies mentioned in the 2023 government working plan (RKP). Among them are eradicating extreme poverty, overcoming unemployment, and adding basic infrastructures.

This was mentioned by the head of the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas) Suharso Monoarfa after a Cabinet meeting led by President Joko Widodo or Jokowi on Wednesday, Feb. 16.

“The theme in the 2023 RKP is to increase productivity for an inclusive and sustainable economic transformation,” said Monoarfa in a press statement on February 16.

The Cabinet meeting discussed three main issues, namely the handling of the Covid-19 pandemic, the 2023 RKP theme and working plan priorities, as well as Macroeconomic Framework and Fiscal Policy Principles (KEM PPKF) Fiscal Year (FY) 2023 Preliminary Draft.

The Bappenas head elaborated the seven prioritized policies for the 2023 plan which starts with accelerating the eradication of extreme poverty for 2.5-3 million population; elevating the quality of human resources in healthcare and education; overcoming unemployment and increasing decent jobs; pushing for recovery in the business industry; green economy; revitalizing industry and strengthening applied research in order to boost productivity; and accelerating the development of basic infrastructures.

Suharso Monoarfa also mentioned that the meeting intends to boost economic growth up to 5.3-5.9 percent.
