TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia was appointed by the International Federation of Gymnastics (FIG) as the host of the 2025 Artistic Gymnastics World Championships, as confirmed by the Minister of Youth and Sports Dito Ariotedjo. The championship is slated for October 19-25, 2025, at Indonesia Arena.
"We, the government, are ecstatic because gymnastics is one of the ‘mothers of sports’, which I believe must be strengthened and focused on since it’s one of the most prestigious sports in the Olympics," said Dito in a press conference on Tuesday, May 7, 2024.
Dito aims to popularize gymnastics in Indonesia by hosting the championship. He ensured the government would provide full support so the event could run smoothly. "We hope this (gymnastics) will become increasingly popular in all communities in Indonesia. We believe that by appointing Indonesia as the host, the country will automatically be more progressive in preparing the gymnasts," Dito added.
Meanwhile, the Chair of the Executive Board of the All Indonesian Gymnastics Association (PB Persani) Ita Juliawati said she was proud of Indonesia's appointment as host of the 2025 World Gymnastics Championships. She said that the event would be participated by more than 70 countries with a total of more than 500 athletes.
"It is a matter of pride for Indonesia that we are hosting the 2025 World Gymnastics Championships for the first time. This is an extraordinary opportunity and we really hope this will be the trigger for future gymnastics achievements," she said.
Ita explained that as host, her side would send many athletes from all over the country. "For the male team, there are representatives from Riau, Jakarta, Central Java, and East Java with a total of five gymnasts. The female team is from East Java, Jakarta, and Riau."
