TEMPO.CO, JakartaThe National Development Planning Ministry or Bappenas aims to drop the number of extreme poverty to three million people by 2023.

The minister or the agency head Suharso Monoarfa explained that accelerating the elimination of indigence is one of the priority policies designed in the Government Work Plan (RKP) for 2023.

“In 2023, we must reduce extreme poverty by 2.5 to 3 million people,” said Suharso in a press conference on the results of the Plenary Cabinet broadcasted virtually on Wednesday, Feb. 16.

He said that dropping poverty numbers to three million people is in line with the plan to eliminate extreme poverty by 0-1 percent by 2024, according to the development target.

President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo emphasized that the theme of the RKP and Points of Fiscal Policy (PPKF) in 2023 is increasing productivity for inclusive and sustainable economic transformation.

In addition to poverty, the government also formulated a number of priority policies in 2023 including improving the quality of human resources in the education and health sectors, overcoming unemployment which is in line with increasing job opportunities, restoring business, and revitalizing the industry, as well as strengthening applied research in a bid to boost productivity.
