TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Ministry of Home Affairs has not yet discussed the names of people who will fill the vacant seat of Jakarta Governor after Anies Baswedan ends his office term in October 2022.

The ministry's spokesman, Benny Irwan, said the name of the new regional head will be announced before Anies' term ends.

“Let's say the regional head’s term ends in June, the administrative process usually starts April-May, that’s when an official proposal is submitted,” said Benny to Tempo on Friday, January 7.

Anies will end his office term in October 2022. The next gubernatorial election, however, will be held in 2024. In the meantime, the governor's seat will be filled by an acting governor. The successor will be proposed by the Ministry of Home Affairs to be approved by President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo.

Other than Jakarta, Benny said the top seats of six provinces, 76 regencies, and 38 cities will also be filled by acting officials until 2024 in accordance with Law No. 10 of 2016 concerning regional head elections (Pilkada).
