TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan said 11.2 million residents of the capital have registered as participants of the National Health Insurance and Healthy Indonesia Card (JKN-KIS) program. The figure is equal to 98.39 percent of the total population.
Anies targeted the number to reach 100 percent and all residents would have health insurance protection. Thus, the city administration collaborated with the National Health Care and Social Security Agency (BPJS Kesehatan) to expand the membership coverage and increase employers’ compliance in the program implementation.
“We want to ensure that all Jakarta residents are covered,” said Anies as quoted by Tempo from his Facebook account on Wednesday, January 5.
According to the governor, the effort requires a lot of energy. But if the target is achieved, he added, the government will be able to manage it easily.
The collaboration is an opportunity to exchange data so that the government will not only work on curative aspects but also on preventive aspects.
Anies Baswedan also emphasized that Jakarta is determined to realize a health insurance program that covers all citizens as the local government has fiscal potential that can be used in the best way possible.
