TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Head of the East Jakarta Police's Criminal Investigation Unit, Adj. Sr. Comr. Ahsanul Muqaffi, on Friday said that two policemen identified as Tamrin Pardede (TP) and Samuel Siahaan could potentially be found as suspects in the beating of 14-year old teens which happened in the East Jakarta area of Bidara Cina.

He added that the police will soon hold an initial investigation to name the policemen’s status as suspects. “The initial investigation will be held on Wednesday (January 5, 2022),” he said on December 31.

Apart from the two policemen, one civilian identified as Josua who allegedly helped in the beating has been summoned twice but failed to appear.

“We will pick him up on Wednesday to be questioned as a suspect,” he added.

The beating of two teenagers went viral in a number of social media platforms after the men who committed the physical abuse claimed to work for the National Police Headquarters.

The incident happened when the suspects were on their way driving a car to their relative’s house in Bidara Cina, but had to stop and park their car in front of a road portal that was closed. The men then chose to wait in the car until it was opened.

But suddenly they found themselves surrounded by roughly 15 people. The policemen claimed one of them broke a window of the car. They tried to escape by backing up the car but eventually crashed into a wall. The beating happened after they came back to their car and found a group of teenagers sitting nearby the scene.

TP suddenly beat the teens and took them and reported them to the East Jakarta Police after severely beating them up. The teens were sent home after he was found to only be witnesses of the initial incident. The victims' parents then reported the beating to the same police office which led to TP and Samuel being reported to the police.
