TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo in commemorating the world anti-corruption day on Thursday reminded law enforcers to handle any type of corruption cases and not only those that create public disruption.
The President delivered a speech at the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) headquarters on Thursday, December 9.
“Enforcement should not only target cases that create a scene on the surface, but needs basic and comprehensive attempts to eradicate corruption,” said the President.
Interestingly, the President said eradicating corruption must not exclusively be done through arrests but other means that can eliminate the crime from its core. However, he continues to acknowledge the importance of prosecution as it is a potent deterrent effect for perpetrators and can help retrieve state assets.
“Eradicating it must treat the root of the problem. Prevention is a more fundamental step. The interest of the people will be saved if corruption is managed to be prevented,” said Jokowi.
