President Jokowi Departs to UAE Following COP26 in Glasgow

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - After attending the World Leaders Summit at the United Nations Climate Change Summit (COP26) in Glasgow, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo will continue his overseas visits to Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The Indonesian Ambassador to the United Kingdom Desra Percaya, Defense Attache at the Indonesian Embassy in London Ranon Sugiman, and a number of Scottish local authorities were present at the Glasgow Prestwick international airport as the President’s entourage left for Abu Dhabi.

“The President will meet with the Crown Prince Mohammad Bin Zayed (MBZ) and visit several infrastructures and will also meet with UAE’s public figures and businessmen,” the Presidential Office Press Bureau wrote on November 2.

Prior to this and ahead of the COP26, the President underwent a stringent state agenda where on his first day of the visit to Glasgow kicked off his tight schedule with a meeting with British CEOs, in hopes of accelerating the investment commitment of companies present related to energy transition and green economy in Indonesia. It is said to be worth US$9.29 billion.

Jokowi then attended the opening ceremony of the UN World Leaders Summit where he addressed Indonesia’s commitment in mitigating the effects of climate change and pledged to reduce deforestation.

The President then met with Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Ibrahim Shtayyeh and reasserted Indonesia’s commitmnet in supporting Palestine’s sovereignty and struggle for independence. A number of bilateral meetings were also held with Slovenia’s Prime Minister Janez Jansa, Britain’s Boris Johnson, and United States President Joe Biden.
