TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Legal Aid (LBH Jakarta) on Monday issued a report on the performance of Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan throughout his 4-year tenure dubbed the “red report card [failing report card] for Anies Baswedan’s leadership in the capital.”

In this report, the legal aid’s lawyer, Charlie Albajili, said there were 10 aspects that called for improvement.

The first problem, he elaborated, is the air quality issue facing the capital that exceeded the national ambient air quality standard. The report said the government had failed to commit to preventing or mitigating the problem.

Accessibility towards clean water supply caused by the privatization of water sources also continues to pose an issue, especially in the city’s packed population. The third note from LBH Jakarta said Anies Baswedan had yet to solve the crucial root cause of urban flooding.

The fourth aspect criticized the lack of participation in creating a community action plan that was evident in the relocation of the Kampung Akuarium area.

Other criticisms towards Anies Baswedan’s leadership included the city’s lack of seriousness in opening people’s access to legal aid services and the difficulties in obtaining affordable housing. The governor’s zero-down payment housing, which initially targeted to create 232,214 houses, has been slashed to only 10 thousand units.

LBH Jakarta also slammed Anies Baswedan’s leadership regarding the handling the livelihood of islanders and residents of coastal areas, the COVID-19 pandemic, forced evictions, and the Jakarta Bay reclamation project that still continued years after he pledged to stop it.
