TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan issued Governor Regulation No. 90 of 2021 on the Regional Low Carbon Development Plan (RPRKD) as he sets out to transform the capital into a climate-resilient city.
Anies said this target was in accordance with the 2020-2024 National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN). “Jakarta is the first province to have an RPRKD in Indonesia,” said Anies in Jakarta, Friday, October 15.
The development plan is proof of Jakarta's ambitious commitment and active contribution to achieving Indonesia's National Determined Contribution (NDC). It is also in line with the global agenda for handling climate change, the Paris Agreement.
According to Anies, the provincial government has carried out comprehensive innovations by implementing climate change mitigation and adaptation in a balanced fashion. Anies said that climate change adaptation strategies are often forgotten.
The RPRKD regulation is mainstreaming the issue of climate change and regional development. “In order to realize Jakarta as a climate-resilient city,” he underlined.
With this regulation, Anies targeted to reduce the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions by 30 percent and even 50 percent by 2030. Jakarta is also targeted to achieve zero emissions by 2050.
Other commitments in achieving the goal include fostering people’s abilities to adapt to climate disasters, which is aimed at reducing the areas categorized as vulnerable and highly vulnerable to climate disasters. “For the first time, the action of climate change adaptation is regulated in legal products,” said Anies Baswedan.
