TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Police Main Headquarters (Mabes Polri) on Friday urged the public to trust the institution’s investigation against its personnel who body slammed a student protester during a demonstration in Tangerang.

“The Police are asking people to believe in the handling of this case,” said the Mabes Polri spokesperson Comm. Ahmad Ramadhan on October 15.

He said the Banten Police, where the officer resides, will punish the member for violating the standard operating procedure upon guarding a public rally.

“His act did not abide by the standard operating procedure in securing a rally. Surely, due to his actions, the police chief will sanction [the member] according to the Law,” said Ramadhan.

Moreover, the authorities also requested the student who was body slammed into the ground, Muhammad Fariz Amrullah, to be a witness for the investigation.

The student protester is currently undergoing hospital treatment at the Ciputra Hospital after he complained about suffering pain in his shoulder and neck. This issue grabbed public attention after a video recording about the incident had spread on social media.
