TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State-run railway operator PT Kereta Api Indonesia or KAI issued new travel rules for train passengers. The firm’s Vice President of Public Relations Joni Martinus said the changes followed the Transportation Ministry’s latest policy on travel during the COVID-19 pandemic.

In the latest policy, would-be passengers are no longer required to present documents as previously mandated. “STRP, assignment letters, or other certificates no longer be travel requirements for users of local trains, Commuter Line or KRL,” said Joni in a written statement on Monday, September 13.

  • Local trains

Starting Tuesday, September 14, people willing to ride local trains managed by KAI must show a COVID-19 vaccination certificate in the PeduliLindungi app. “Officers will check the certificate through computer screen before boarding,” Joni said.

The vaccination data will automatically appear on the screen as PT KAI’s data has been integrated with the PeduliLindungi app. Would-be passengers must also show their ID numbers.

  • Long-distance trains

Other than a COVID-19 vaccination certificate, would-be passengers must bring a negative result of an RT-PCR test that is valid for 2x24 hours before departure, or of a rapid antigen test valid for 1x24 hours before departure.

  • Commuter Line or KRL

Starting Wednesday, September 8, all users of the Jabodetabek KRL, Yogyakarta - Solo KRL, and the Prambanan Express Train are required to show a COVID-19 vaccination certificate of at least the first dose. Officers will also ask ID or other identity cards to match with the vaccination certificate.

  • Airport Train

The use of the PeduliLindungi app is on a trial basis today, September 13. All would-be users are thus expected to download the app to show their COVID-19 vaccination certificates before taking the airport train starting September 14.

Joni further added that people aged below 12 years old are still barred from using train services and all passengers must also comply with the predetermined health protocols during travel. “Passengers with special health conditions or have comorbid diseases that prevent them from receiving vaccinations must bring a doctor's certificate,” he said.
