TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Association (PHRI) in Cianjur, West Java, recorded a 100 percent rise in hotel occupancy rate during the weekend as travelers coming from the Greater Jakarta area flocked the region’s hotels.

Cianjur PHRI chairperson Nano Indra Praja on Sunday attributed the spike in occupancy due to slackened public activity restriction (PPKM), which the government imposed after Greater Jakarta areas recorded dropping numbers of Covid-19 cases.

“Just this weekend hotel occupancy increased with several hotels and PHRI members reporting full bookings,” said Praja on Sunday, August 29.

He explains that despite being fully booked, hotels continue to impose strict health protocols and limited visitors to those who have been vaccinated against the coronavirus.

“Hopefully the economy will return to normal after PPKM ends,” he said. Cianjur is one of many Indonesian regions imposing a higher PPKM level, unlike the Greater Jakarta regions.
