TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Deputy Chief of the Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Association (PHRI) Maulana Yusran asked the government to make a fair policy regarding the extension of Covid-19 restrictions dubbed PPKM Level 4. Such as, allowing relaxation on hotels and restaurants activity just like in traditional markets.
"The only thing that matters is traditional markets, traditional food stalls (warteg); they are allowed to open. But activities in hotels, ballrooms, are not allowed. There should be no discrimination," said Maulana when contacted on Monday, August 2, 2021.
PHRI regretted that the government did not consider the efforts of hotel and restaurant business actors in complying with the health protocol regulations. Hotels and restaurants have even obtained CHSE certificates as a standard for implementing protocols in the midst of a pandemic.
"There are places of business that have strict protocols, according to (rules), but are not open (economic activities). In terms of issuing this policy, it is not fair," said Maulana.
He continued, if this restriction is maintained, it will have a prolonged impact as business actors will face large losses. Hotel and restaurant businesses no longer have the reserve funds as last year to maintain their business.
“From the rate alone, we have decreased by 30-40 percent. So when compared (to before the outbreak), there is no growth," he said.
Maulana confirmed that several hotels have changed their business model by serving guests for the purpose of self-isolation as a strategy to maintain business. However, the number of hotels that carry out this maneuver is not too large, so many entrepreneurs choose to close their businesses temporarily.
President Jokowi previously decided to extend PPKM Level 4 until August 9, 2021. He explained it would adjust to the activities and conditions of each region. To reduce the burden on society due to restrictions, said the President, the government will encourage the acceleration of the realization of social assistance.
