TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo has extended the public activity restrictions (PPKM) levels 4 and 3 to August 16, 2021.

Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan said the evaluation of PPKM in Java and Bali would be carried out on a weekly basis, while that in outside of the two regions would be on a biweekly basis.

Luhut, who is also the coordinator of the Java-Bali PPKM, said this decision had taken into account the analyses of experts in the field.

“The recommendations in Java and Bali are different from those outside [of the regions],” he said on August 9.

Luhut said the last extended period from August 2 showed positive results as COVID-19 cases continued to decline. “However, as the President has instructed, this trend must be maintained, which is why the restrictions are extended to August 16.”

Previously, a spokesman of the ministry, Jodi Mahardi, said the government considered the health index, economy, and social dynamics before announcing a policy.
