No Vaccination Status Requirements for Social Aid Recipients: Anies Baswedan

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan ensured COVID-19 vaccination was not mandatory for residents to receive social assistance. According to Anies, all humanitarian agendas must not be linked to vaccination requirements.
“On that basis, social assistance to sustain life must not be linked to anything,” said Anies at Tarakan Hospital, Central Jakarta, August 6.
Previous reports suggested that Utan Panjang Subdistrict Head required residents to be vaccinated against COVID-19 before getting non-cash aid.
The Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI) also received similar reports that the city administration would delay the disbursement of cash aid if the children of a family recipient have not been vaccinated.
KPAI Commissioner Retno Listyarti said the reports came from a parent in West Jakarta who refused to have their children vaccinated.
Anies Baswedan thus underlined that making COVID-19 vaccine mandatory for recipients of social assistance was a violation against city regulations. What the Jakarta administration allows is that city employees can advise residents to get their vaccine shots after distributing the social aid, Anies said.
