TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Police confirmed they would not process the Indonesia Corruption Watch’s (ICW) report filed against Firli Bahuri for alleged graft related to the rent of a private helicopter for his personal trip.

“What’s reported has been investigated internally (by the Corruption Eradication Commission or KPK). We think that the National Police's Criminal Investigation Department (Bareskrim) has its own assessment in taking the steps,” said National Police spokesman Brig. Gen. Rusdi Hartono at his office, Central Jakarta, Monday, June 7.

Bareskrim Head Comr. Gen. Agus Andrianto said he would return the ICW’s report against the KPK chairman to the KPK Supervisory Council.

Agus asserted the police were presently focusing on assisting the government in the national economic recovery efforts. The alleged graft case involving Firli should not involve the police, he argued.

“Please do not drag the police [to the case]. Our energy is focused on helping the acceleration of the handling of the COVID-19 pandemic and its impacts,” Agus said.

The corruption watchdog previously found a discrepancy between the rent cost of a private helicopter reported by Firli to the KPK Supervisory Board and the actual cost. The helicopter was provided by PT Air Pacific Utama, whose one of its commissioners once became a witness in an alleged graft case of the Meikarta project.

According to ICW researcher Wana Alamsyah, what’s committed by Firli Bahuri was overseen by Article 12(B) of Law No. 31/1999 in conjunction with Law No. 20/2001.
