TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Cellular operator Telkomsel has officially introduced the 5G network in the Indonesian communication market. In the first phase, it is available in nine major cities in Indonesia, namely Medan, Batam, Bandung, Balikpapan, Solo, Jakarta, Surabaya, Makassar, and Denpasar.

The specific locations are in crowded and populated areas. The service is also limited to a number of mobile devices that are compatible for 5G connections that have 5G NSA non-standalone at the 2300 MHz frequency, such as the Oppo Reno 5, Huawei Mate 40, Vivo X60 and Vivo X60 Pro.

“Telkomsel will continue to expand the partnership with a number of partner devices to provide options for Telkomsel users, including Apple and Samsung,” Telkomsel said in a written statement on May 27.

During the initial phase, customers would need to adjust the software of their mobile devices to connect to the 5G network that is accommodated by each smartphone producer.

In order to experience up to 20 Gbps ultra low latency of Telkomsel, customers must use a uSIM phone within the area where the 5G services are available. Users must also make sure that the 5G feature is activated in their devices and that their phone number is listed as customers of 5G services.
