TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Telecommunication company Telkomsel officially launched 5G technology in Indonesia. The fifth-generation mobile network, however, is only available in a few regions.
Telkomsel Network Director Nugroho said that the ultra-fast mobile internet service is now available in 26 clusters, mostly crowded and residential areas, in nine major cities of Indonesia, namely Medan, Batam, Bandung, Balikpapan, Solo, Jakarta, Surabaya, Makassar, and Denpasar.
"Because...these areas have a lot of potentials and require 5G services," said Nugroho in the launching event on Thursday, May 27, 2021.
He also explained that the regions that adopted the mobile service were still limited because of three limitations, "the spectrum, limited equipment, and time to market issues."
However, the company was grateful as the hard, smart, and sincere work had paid off, hoping the launch of the 4G successor network could benefit Telkomsel customers and people of Indonesia.
The 5G network is 100 times faster than the previous generation 4G reaching 20 gigabits per second and offers ultra-low latency. "We are committed to accelerating the deployment of the Telkomsel network in accordance with the public needs. We also support events of PON and MotoGP in Indonesia," said Nugroho.
