TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - On Wednesday, 2,500 teachers received the Covid-19 vaccines in Tangerang City. These are teachers working under the Tangerang City Education Office and the Ministry of Religion.

Tangerang Mayor Arief R. Wismansyah visited the location of the vaccine administration.

"Because this is the fasting month of Ramadan, we are tightening our health checks," said Arief in a statement in Tangerang, Wednesday, April 14, 2021.

Covid-19 vaccination for teachers and educators is part of the preparations for the so-called face-to-face learning (PTM), a.k.a. the reopening of schools, in Tangerang City. Arief said they are targeting to vaccinate 20,000 educators throughout Tangerang City.

"There are 12,000 educators who have been vaccinated, including educators at the Ministry of Religion and university lecturers," Arief said.

The Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) has issued a fatwa allowing people to receive Covid-19 vaccine shots while fasting. The MUI Fatwa No.13/2021 stated that receiving the shot does not break the fast.
