TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Deputy Governor Ahmad Riza Patria stated that the provincial government and the community need to cooperate to create order in the permanent bicycle lane. Earlier the city introduced 11.2-kilometer protected bike lanes in Central Jakarta.

“We have prepared regulations for the special bike lanes, but there are still many shortcomings as there are many violations including those committed by cyclists who go off the track. However, all of them cannot be handed on to the provincial government,” said Riza here on Sunday, March 7.

He asserted that the city administration needed cooperation with all elements considering that it has provided the facilities up to the policies.

“Cyclists are not allowed to use other lanes. Motorbikers must not also interfere with the bicycle lanes,” Riza said.

According to him, the government has passed all policies on transportation, including trains, LRT, MRT, Trans Jakarta, public transportation, and taxis. Regulations on motorcycle taxis have also been released to maintain the order.

“The provincial government is tasked to design the best possible transportation master plan. And alhamdulillah we have exited the list of top 10 congested cities,” he remarked.

Riza said Jakarta was determined to keep expanding the length of bike lanes and targeted to create up to 80 kilometers this year. “We want people to use bicycles not only for sports or recreation but also for the practical purpose of transportation in the future,” he concluded.
