TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian National Police (Polri) announced that it will enact preventive measures against fake Covid-19 vaccines from entering the country.

“Surely Polri will back up the preventive measures against those counterfeit vaccines,” said the National Police spokesperson Brig. Gen. Rusid Hartono at his office in South Jakarta on March 5.

He said that police have yet received any information of a possible counterfeit vaccines circulating here but ensures that police will act quickly if they find one.

Hartono warned that the authorities will not hesitate to take action on people attempting to exploit the Covid-19 pandemic.

A recent report by the Interpol suggests that the counterfeit Covid-19 vaccines have been discovered in China and South Africa. The South Africa police managed to confiscate 2,400 fake vaccine doses in Johannesburg.

Meanwhile in China, the local police force with help from Interpol raided a factory producing thousands of fake Covid-19 vaccines and detained around 80 suspects from the location.
