TEMPO.CO, Bandung - West Java Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) chairman Dani Ramdan called on residents living in five regions of Bogor, Depok, and Bekasi or Bodebek to be aware of extreme weather.

“Based on the information by BMKG (Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency), there is a potential of quite extreme rainfall in the regions until February 6,” said Dani as quoted from a release on Thursday, February 4.

The five regions are Bekasi City, Bekasi Regency, Bogor City, Bogor Regency, and Depok City. “We have sent a letter to the regions to anticipate hydrometeorological disasters,” Dani added.

“The letter was delivered to the regional governments whose areas are at high risk. But we also appeal to the public to stay vigilant, especially those willing to travel,” he said.

The West Java provincial government had also asked the mentioned regions to prepare heavy equipment to anticipate natural disasters caused by extreme weather.

“West Java BPBD has coordinated with the regions, especially the public works agencies, to prepare heavy equipment until May and remain alert in natural tourism areas,” Dani said.
