TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo is scheduled to visit Banjarbaru City in South Kalimantan today on January 18 after the region sustained heavy flooding since last week.

Head of the Presidential Secretariat Heru Budi Hartono confirmed this to journalists at the Palace “[President Jokowi] will observe the locations that were affected by the flooding and instruct immediate mitigations.”

In his visit, said Heru, the President intends to make sure that the government aid is already distributed by local governments and whether it has reached its rightful recipients as the local government announced the flooding as a ‘national emergency’.

The official report from the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) stated that there are 10 regencies and cities in South Kalimantan that are affected by the flooding caused by the moderate rain on Tuesday, January 12, which forced 39,549 residents to evacuate to emergency camps and left 15 dead.
