TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - When opening the Cabinet Plenary meeting at the State Palace on Monday, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo reminded Cabinet members again about Indonesia’s current handling of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We must remain focused to maintain the balance between healthcare management and economic recovery,” said the seventh Indonesian President.

He claimed that active COVID-19 cases in Indonesia as of November 1, 2020, had recorded a number that was far below the world’s average development with 13.78 percent compared to the world average of 25.22 percent.

Jokowi said the recovery rate of Indonesians had improved after recording 82.84 percent recoveries domestically, which in comparison to the world average of 72 percent was a hopeful situation for the country’s future, he noted.

“We are also better in the number of recoveries. But this must also be improved even further,” said the president.

However, Indonesia’s mortality rate of 3.38 percent remains a crucial aspect of Indonesia’s COVID-19 pandemic that calls for improvement as the global average is 2.5 percent.
