Minister Airlangga Says Indonesia's COVID-19 Mortality Rate Keeps Dropping

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - COVID-19 mitigation and economic recovery committee chairman Airlangga Hartarto said the country’s COVID-19 mortality rate kept declining. This positive report was due to the government’s efforts, he added.

“The case fatality rate is now 4.1 percent, and it keeps going lower from previously 7-8 percent,” said Airlangga after a cabinet plenary meeting at the State Palace in Jakarta on Monday, September 7.

A week ago, President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo announced the country’s mortality rate reached 4.7 percent, 0.8 percent higher than the global rate. “I think this is our big homework together,” said Jokowi on Monday, August 31.

The drop to 4.1 percent, Airlangga went on, was also in line with the availability of medical services. Moreover, the services were not only concentrated in one area.

“The medical services in hospitals in Jakarta and outside of Jakarta are all prepared to serve people affected by the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Airlangga.
