TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The national COVID-19 mitigation task force chairman, Doni Monardo, reported positive developments in the coronavirus disease handling in Indonesia as there was a drop in the number of active cases in the past month.

“There is a drop in active cases from 25 percent as of September 13 to 19.97 percent as of October 11. So there is a significant decrease,” said Doni in a virtual press conference after a limited meeting on Monday, October 12, 2020.

Doni said the trend of active cases was better than the global figure, which also experienced a decline in the past month from 24 percent to 22.1 percent. Besides, out of ten provinces prioritized by the government, only Bali that had not shown a downward trend, he explained.

“East Java and Papua have indeed reported an increase, but the figure dropped again last week,” Doni added.

This was also followed by a hike in the recovery rate. As of September 13, Doni said the figure was 71 percent. Presently, Indonesia’s recovery rate was above the global rate at 76.46 percent.

“The cure rates in 10 provinces including Bali and Aceh have also increased, except for Papua,” he mentioned.

Unfortunately, the positive development in COVID-19 mitigation does not include a decline in the case fatality rate. According to Doni, Indonesia’s mortality rate was still high and above the global average.
