TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Chief of the Indonesian national police (Polri) criminal investigation unit (Bareskrim), Comm. Gen. Listyo Sigit Prabowo, personally traveled to Malaysia to capture long-time fugitive Joko Tjandra. The fugitive is said to be on his way under police custody back to Indonesia tonight.

“[Joko Tjandra] has been picked up by the Bareksrim Chief from Malaysia and they are currently on their way back,” said police spokesperson, Inspector General Argo Yuwono at East Jakarta’s Halim Perdanakusuma Airport on Thursday night, July 30.

The police spokesperson did not specify the location in Malaysia where Joko was apprehended and only explained that the fugitive will be taken directly to the Bareskrim headquarters as soon as he lands in Indonesia.

Joko Tjandra is a fugitive in the Bank Bali debt case causing major losses, reportedly up to Rp904 billion. He reportedly evaded the immigration records when he entered and left Indonesia. Joko fled to Port Moresby of Papua New Guinea in 2009, exactly one day before the Supreme Court's ruling was issued.
