Karaoke,Restaurant Workers Urge Anies Baswedan to Open Businesses

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Dozens of karaoke and restaurant workers on Tuesday held a rally in front of Governor Anies Baswedan’s office headquarters to demand the reopening of entertainment venues amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.
Met at the location of the rally, the workers claimed to have practically been left jobless for four months due to the COVID-19 restrictions the government had imposed. They also claim to have only been living off of government assistance.
“We only could rely on the staple foodstuff assistance from Anies,” said Aldi (28) in front of the City Hall in Central Jakarta today.
Most of the workers present at the rally are said to be from a karaoke area in Melawai, South Jakarta.
Another protestor, Rita (30), claims to have also been left jobless after the restaurant where she worked had closed business for the past five months. Most of the protestors are migrant workers from areas outside of Jakarta.
