Jakarta COVID-19 Emergency, Recreation Businesses Urged to Close

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Provincial Government announced on Friday, March 20, 2020, that the COVID-19 emergency status will temporarily close 17 types of businesses in the tourism sector for two weeks starting Monday, March 23, up to April 5, 2020.
"We already issued a circular on the temporary stoppage of operational activities in the tourism industry, which comes as an attempt to prevent further spread of the coronavirus," said Jakarta's Tourism and Creative Economy Agency, Cucu Ahmad Kurnia, which was streamed online from the City Hall this evening.
The types of recreation businesses that will face temporary closure include:
- Night clubs
- Pubs
- Karaoke bars
- Massage parlors
- Spa
- Movie theatres
- Billiard
- Bowling joints
"We also highly urge organizers of MICE (Meeting, Incentive, Conference, dan Exhibition) events, hotels, and meeting halls to suspend upcoming events until a determined deadline," said Cucu Ahmad Kurnia on the city administration’s coronavirus mitigation plan.
