Minister Tito Karnavian Bans Convoys During Election Registration

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian has barred convoys during the registration of candidates of the 2020 Regional Head Election (Pilkada) at regional General Election Commission (KPU) offices.
“Candidates willing to register usually bring many supporters that lead to a convoy, that’s a no! Convoys are not allowed during the registration,” said Tito in a written statement on Friday, July 10.
Tito elaborated that only limited registrants and teams who are permitted to register at the regional KPU offices. “While others via virtual,” he added.
As stipulated in the rules of election campaigns in the new normal era, Tito said, social crowds are no longer allowed. A campaign can only be attended by a maximum of 50 people under the physical distancing order.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Tito reminded that local election organizing committees, supervisors, and voters must abide by the predetermined health protocols.
Hand-washing stations or hand sanitizers will also be provided at the voting stations. “People are obliged to wear face masks, wash hands with soap or alcohol-based liquids,” Tito Karnavian underlined.
